ROSÂNGELA RENNÓ

Born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in 1962, Rosângela Rennó has an undergraduate degree in Visual Arts from Escola Guignard and in Architecture from the Universidade Federal de Mina Gerais. Moreover she has a PhD in Arts from Escola de Comunicações e Artes da USP. Her work is marked by the appropriation of discarded images, found in flea markets and fairs, and by the investigation of the relationship between memory and oblivion. In her photographs, objects, videos and installations, she works with family albums and images from public or private archives. Moreover, she is also the author of several books. The artist, who has received several awards and grants throughout her career, has participated in numerous individual and group exhibitions all over the world, and her work is represented in the most prestigious cultural institutions, including: the Art Institute of Chicago; MoMa, in New York; Centre Georges Pompidou, in Paris; Guggenheim Museum, in New York; Museu de Arte de São Paulo; Museo Nacional Reina Sofia, in Madrid; Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian – CAM, in Lisbon; Tate Modern, in London; Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro and Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo in Brazil, among many others.
